Message Mike -

: Ok,

: I am coming out of lurk mode again to give some answers to the questions and critisizums about the project on why the car was built like it was.

: 1. 3 years to build a car that sucks with only 560 hp?!

: Well I think it would be hard for most people to save the money needed to buy all the parts that I had to. I am not rich, I work as an engineer full time and for SCC, Turbo, etc. part time. Between all of this, I have to find time to work on the car. Many parts of the car were custom made for it, the brake system, suspension system and engine has many custom parts never before made for the Z32 that are now avalibe for sale, but someone had to work with the companies to help design test fit and test the parts. This takes a while. This car actualy has been dynoed at 574 hp now with some addtional tuning. If someone thinks 574 wheel hp sucks, then I'd like to see them build something better that has a broader more streetable powerband with manifolds that wont crack! My dyno charts have been posted here being compared to some of the most powerful Z's on this forum and I think not too many other cars has more torque or a broader powerband. The engine is also built to be relaible. The 560 hp car that was on the cover of turbo, overheats on the dyno. Mine has no issues and can be pounded around a road course all day, blasted down a nevada highway for 100 miles in the Silver State Classic or driven as a daily driver. It also has more bottom end power and torque than the stock motor, so much for turbo lag.

: 2. Haha the car got wrecked isn't that funny.

: No. Its my car!

: 3. Why no front mount? Every idiot knows thats better, like Border makes better stuff or Pentroof.

: The Z suffers from a huge lack of engine compartment ventilation. A built Z will overheat in a second when driven on a road course on a hot day unless measures are taken. A front mount blocking the tiny radiator opening would result in overheating if the car was driven on a road course, which it was built for. I wanted the airflow to the radiator and oil cooler to be unobstructed. Tubular headers supporting big heavy turbos on daily drivers crack. The better ones last longer that the poorly designed ones but they all eventualy will crack. People who critisize this proably have never actualy worked on this area of a Z32. You don't want to have to go and pull turbos and manifolds very often, it is not fun belive me. In fact I think this is the worst mechanical nightmare that I have ever faced. I dread thinking about working on this part of the car. I just pull the engine, its easier and less aggrivating.

: 4. Why the Jspec front end with the high buck lights and no kit, where is the rear part? haha the car sucks.

: I dunno, I wanted the car to look like a stock J-Spec Z except for the wing which I didnt like. The J-Spec cars rear bumper is not different. I prefer OEM quality body parts, not cheesy chipping and cracking fiberglass or ill fitting wavy aftermarket urethane. Anyway taste is all relative and personal, I laugh inside at gaudy ricy looking Z's I see in car shows and stuff.

: 5. What a dumbass, the car does not run right in the 1/4 mile.

: Hey I can't anticpate every problem that might happen. The car should be going through the traps in the high 120's low 130's. At least I have the balls to write about my mistakes! Since the article was written, the car now has a carbon fiber airbox that should solve the problem. Probably the guys that are talking the smack should try to actualy take there cars to the track or actualy build a motor since its so easy!

: 6. Mike Menhert should drive the car.

: Proably so, but I am an ok driver as well. I have won lots of money braket racing and have driven 10-11 second cars before(my mustang) so I think I do ok. The car is set up for road racing and has a really light, low enertia, light switch engaging clutch so I don't think even Mike could drive it much faster in the 60 foot. I also ran Drag Radials not slicks. I think the car might not run better than low 12's unless I get a carbon clutch and retune the suspension for drag racing but I expect the MPH to be much better the next time I go to the track.

: 7. Who runs race gas, the car should be run only on pump gas.

: I think I wrote about the pump gas power in the article, it was nearly 500 hp to the wheels on 91 octane crap gas. This was pretty conservative as well, the engine had no trace of detonation. After all of my work, I don't want to risk detonating the motor so anything about 20 psi gets race gas.

: Is this the most powerful fastest Z ever built? No but it was not my intention. The car was built to be one of the better all around well balanced cars with a tractable motor, good braking, handling, top speed and reliabilty. Sort of like a stock Ferrari or other exotic in performance. I think it is almost there. A few more engine mods are planned so 600 wheel hp should be obtainable with even better throttle response and bottom end power. Bernie has supplied me with a Racelogic traction control system. These last few bits should complete the car.

: Mike
